DUE DILIGENCE FOR SCHOOL PROPRIETORS:
In Nigeria’s expanding educational technology space, flashy marketing claims often mask unstable software, unregistered vendors who vanish mid-session, or systems that fail the moment local cellular connectivity fluctuates. Here is how to verify edtech credibility before spending school capital.
1. Five Essential Verification Checks
Is the vendor registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)? Do they have a verified RC number (such as Elite Computer Technological & Consultation Limited, CAC Reg. RC9160833)? Never hand over student data or funds to anonymous online handles.
Foreign platforms frequently use American or British grade levels (K-12, Grade 9) and alien syllabi. Ensure the system natively supports Nigerian nomenclature: Basic 1–6, JSS 1–3, SSS 1–3, with standard A1–F9 grading scales.
Does the platform feature an offline mode or local software fallbacks for examination periods? In Nigeria, internet cannot be 100% guaranteed on every exam day.
Can you export all student grades, attendance logs, and financial records to Excel/PDF anytime? Avoid platforms that hold your student data hostage behind exit penalties.
Legitimate technology providers encourage schools to test their software before paying. If a company refuses to offer a working trial or live walkthrough, look elsewhere.
